Since I decided to delve into the wonderful world of perfumery I haven't looked back. And, living in the beautiful Caribbean where there are so many wondrous things to play around with, makes my perfumery journey even better.
This week at our Green Mountain Lab ( a name we aptly call our work environment :) because almost any room you're in you can see the mountain range. We decided to extract rosemary, which is grown on our own 5 acreage organic garden. The garden caters for our product needs at West Indian Skincare.
We decided to extract oranges also, which we purchased from a friend's orchard, and yes they are also organic and very sweet.
Rosemary oil is one of the most popular essential oils. It has become important to us due to its various health benefits including its ability to stimulate hair growth, boost mental activity, relieve respiratory problems and reduce pain. A renowned physician, who made significant contribution to herbal medicine during the sixteenth century. Paracelsus valued rosemary oil due to its ability to strengthen the entire body. He (rightly) believed that rosemary oil had the ability to heal delicate organs such as liver, brain as well as heart.
The health benefits of Orange Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties like anti inflammatory, anti depressant, anti spasmodic, anti septic, aphrodisiac, carminative, diuretic, tonic, sedative and cholagogue. This essential oil is obtained from the peels of orange by cold compression. Although all of you know oranges very well, still, let me give you its botanical name. It is Citrus Sinensis. A favourite oil used in Aromatherapy is Orange essential oil. It has a fresh, sweet, citrus smell and is a valuable treatment oil for many ailments.
